Basic Guidelines for Diluting Essential Oils
Basic Guidelines for using Essential Oils.
The Guidelines below are a general ratio of the amount of essential oils to use per the amount of carrier oils for specific purposes.
Dilution Ratio
- ½% dilution for cats
- 1% dilution for children, pets and elderly
- 2% dilution for whole body massage
- 4% dilution for concentrated ailments

Please note that anything more than 2% dilution should only be done by a trained Aromatherapist as they must be able to monitor their client carefully.
An Example
If you have a 5ml bottle of Jojoba Oil, you can 1 drop of Lavendar essential oil to it to make a great smelling and effective massage blend. This would be considered a 1% dilution ratio. If you added two drops of essential oil to the blend, it would then be a 2% dilution, etc.
