Becoming a Student
The Reiki Center of Venice believes that if you have a passion for flowers and aromas, then we can help you to enhance your knowledge when you are ready to become a student of Aromatherapy. We strive to give our students the most recent, up-to-date information in accordance with NAHA standards of excellence.
To become an applicant to this study program you must:
- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Be able to read and understand English
- Successfully complete all assignments and pass the final exam with a 80% or better grade.

Aromatherapy Certifications: We are a NAHA Level 1 & 2 Approved School offering Holistic and Professional Certification Programs. Open enrollment to match your schedule. We offer your choice of either a Home Study Course where you will receive your manual, DVD, and dried Calendular leaves delivered directory to your home or place of business-or-You can take the entire course online (sorry-no dried calendula leaves included in this option) but you do save money.
Once we receive your order for the selected course, you will be mailed your course along with a student registration form that must be filled out and returned to the Center along with your completed assignments, tests, book report and final blend. You will then be given a student ID# afterwards.
The Holistic Aromtherapy Certification is a 250 hour course broken down as follows:
- Level One-Introduction to Aromatherapy (50 hours)
- Level Two-Advanced Aromatherapy (200 hours)

There are no prerequisites for taking this course
Students will receive a Certificate upon successful completion of this course.
This program will aide massage therapists who are looking for more knowledge on creating a healthy practice for themselves and for their clients. Spa practitioners, acupuncturists, store owners and healthcare providers will also benefit themselves, their clients and their customers by increasing their knowledge and uses for essential oils.
Essential oils, containers, beakers, etc., are NOT included in this course.
Students will have to complete the following for certification:

NAHA Level Two: Professional Aromatherapy Certification
1. Required Standards of Education/Training
1.1 Schools and Educators wishing to comply with NAHA’s Standards of Aromatherapy Training must provide a minimum of two hundred (200) hours of training and practical tuition in the fields of aromatherapy and essential oil studies and anatomy and physiology.
1.2 According to the standards approved and adopted by the Council, Aromatherapy and Essential oil studies should comprise of the following core curriculum requirements:
- History and Modern Development
- The basics of botany (specifically taxonomy)
- Properties of essential oils within a holistic and clinical framework
- Methods of extraction
- Organic chemistry
- Carrier oils
- Blending techniques
- Methods of application
- Safety and Aromatherapy (including dermal, respiratory and internal use)
- Consultation and client education program design
- The basics of business development
- Legal and ethical issues (include a copy of the NAHA Code of Ethics for students)

- The Respiratory System
- The Olfactory System
- The Integumentary System
- The Circulatory System
- The Reproductive System
- The Musculoskeletal System
- The Lymphatic/Immune System
- The Endocrine and Nervous System
- The Urinary System

Graduating students should be knowledgeable in the structure and function of all the major systems of the human body, together with the clinical science of at least five (5) common ailments of each system. Students entering an aromatherapy program with a degree in health related fields (E.g. nurses, massage therapists, doctors) may test out or be exempt from the anatomy and physiology section only in relation to that part of the training which goes over the structure and function of each system. Pre-existing health professionals are still required to complete training in the application of essential oils to each system and the effect of essential oils on a variety of common ailments. Any exemption of the anatomy and physiology portion of training should only be allowed when the request for exemption is fully supported by relevant documentation.
2. Required elements for student graduation based upon approved standards in aromatherapy education
2.1.1 Student must complete a 5-10 page research paper. (Topic is your choice but must deal with Aromatherapy. Be sure to cite credible courses in your paper).
2.1.2 Student must complete a minimum of 10 case histories and follow-ups.
2.1.3 Student must sit and pass a final test in the comfort of their own home that is offered by the school.
2.1.4 Student must read a book of their choice on Anatomy & Physiology.

What will I receive with my course?
Each course comes with the manual and DVD for that level.
No essential oils or accessories are included in the course.
How long will I have to finish the course?
There is no time limit for the student to complete the course.
One of the advantages of a correspondence course is that a student can work at their own pace.
So, please don't feel the need to rush through lessons. Take as much time as you need to assimilate the information and use what you have learned.

• Legal, ethical, privacy issues (include a copy of the NAHA Code of Ethics)
*The Level 1 hour requirement applies to existing health professionals such as: Massage Therapists, Estheticians, Herbalists, Nurses, Physicians, etc. Students who are not existing health professionals have an additional requirement to provide proof of completion of Anatomy & Physiology 1 from an accredited institution, or the equivalent class taken from a NAHA approved school. Anatomy & Physiology Level 1 is a 3-4 credit undergraduate class which typically covers: Tissue & The Integumentary System; Skeleton, Joints & The Skeletal System; Muscle, Muscle Tissue & The Muscular System; Nervous Tissue & The Central Nervous System, The Peripheral Nervous System, The Autonomic Nervous System; The Endocrine System; Cellular Structure & Types, Basic Chemistry. Many universities and colleges offer this course in classroom and on line.
1 college credit = 15-16 classroom hours, or self-paced online which can often be completed more quickly.
Essential Oils Required for Level 1:
Clary Sage (Salvia sclarea), Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens), Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus), Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens), Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), Lemon (Citrus x limon), Peppermint (Mentha x piperita), Roman Chamomile (Anthemis nobilis), Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis), Sweet Orange (Citrus sinensis), Tea Tree (Melaleuca alternifolia), Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata); 8 more essential oils chosen by the instructor for a total of 20.
Students should be made aware of the endangered or threatened status of essential oils such as: Agarwood (Aquilariasp.), Frankincense (Boswellia carteri), Rosewood (Aniba rosaeodora) and Sandalwood (Santalum album).
1. Required elements for Level 1 student graduation based upon approved standards in aromatherapy education
1.1 Student must complete a minimum of 5 case studies.
1.2 Student must sit for and pass a Level 1 examination offered by the school.
1.3 Graduates must submit proof of completion of 5 NAHA approved continuing education hours (CEs) per year or 10 CEs every 2 years in order to remain a Level 2 member in good standing. Examples of NAHA approved CEs include: NAHA Conference, NAHA Webinars (free for members!), writing articles for the NAHA Journal, electives and continuing education courses taught by a NAHA approved school, volunteer or mentorship time spent in a holistic healing center that utilizes aromatherapy.
Level 2: NAHA Certified Professional Aromatherapist®
(Minimum 200 Hours** Curriculum)
• History and Modern Development
• Profiles of minimum 40 essential oils
• Minimum of 10 case studies
• Quality of essential oils
• Production and methods of extraction (distillation, cold pressing/expression, enfleurage, absolute, CO2 extraction)
• The basics of botany (specifically taxonomy)
• Organic chemistry
• Properties of essential oils within a holistic and professional framework
• Blending techniques
• Diluents such as vegetable oils and other carrier bases
• Methods of application (inhalation, diffusion, topical, optional: internal)

2. Required elements for Level 2 student graduation based upon approved standards in aromatherapy education
2.1 Student must complete a 5-10 page research paper (pertaining to an aromatherapy topic).
2.2 Student must complete a minimum of 5 case studies in addition to the required level 1 case studies for a total minimum of 10.
2.3 Student must study a minimum of 20 essential oil profiles in addition to required Level I essential oils for a total minimum of 40.
2.4 Student must sit for and pass a Level 2 examination offered by the school.
2.5 Graduates must submit proof of completion of 10 NAHA approved continuing education hours (CEs) per year or 20 CEs every 2 years in order to remain a Level 2 member in good standing. Examples of NAHA approved CEs include: NAHA Conference, NAHA Webinars (free for members!), writing articles for the NAHA Journal, electives and continuing education courses taught by a NAHA approved school, volunteer or mentorship time spent in a holistic healing center that utilizes aromatherapy.
